About Richard C. Nelson

Richard C. Nelson

Richard C. Nelson is Director of Research at Global Venture Management, where he leads the firm’s analysis of private, pre-IPO companies across artificial intelligence, space, fintech and other high-growth sectors. His company overviews and sales memos give the firm’s partners a clear view of each opportunity’s business, valuation and risks.

Rick brings four decades of Wall Street research and capital markets experience. He began his career at Kidder, Peabody & Co., where he was Vice President and Director of Convertible Securities Research, and his team was rated #1 in institutional convertible research by the Greenwich Survey. At Lehman Brothers, as Senior Vice President and Director of Convertible Securities Research, he was ranked #2 by Institutional Investor in 1993 and 1994 and was involved in nearly $13 billion in convertible underwritings.

He later served as a Managing Director at Furman Selz, ING Barings, ABN AMRO and Morgan Joseph & Co., covering special-situations equity and convertible securities and advising on capital raises. As Managing Director and Head of Research at J Giordano Securities Group, he built and led a multi-analyst research team and helped write the firm’s research compliance manual. Since 2014, he has advised Joseph Stone Capital on equity special situations and private and public company assessments.

Rick holds FINRA Series 7, 63, 79, 86, 87 and 24 licenses. He earned an MBA in Finance from Hofstra University’s Frank G. Zarb School of Business and a BA in History, with a minor in Economics, from Valparaiso University.
